Alternate dispute resolution (ADR) is a means by which parties can come to a dispute resolution through processes and techniques that fall outside the government judicial process.

The major benefits to ADR:

• Fewer costs than litigation.
• A preference for confidentiality, keeping the dispute out of the news.
• Parties have greater control over the selection of the individual(s) deciding over the dispute.
